Global warming and the ever increasing general cost of living is headline news at the minute and they are issues that concern all of us. As technology improves our homes are being filled with more and more appliances to improve our lives, or make our living more comfortable. The rapid increase of gadgets rely on more and more electricity and this inevitably has an effect on not only our environment, but also our finances.
We think it’s fair to say that most of us realise that the little red standby lights that we leave on aren’t helping matters, and that cumulatively it is an import drain on our electrical resources. The trouble with this is that we have become lazy and it’s difficult to imagine that such a small light could be resulting in bigger consequences. At the end of the day electricity isn’t tangible. There doesn’t seem to be any real coloration between the tiny LED lights and our expensive bills.
The Wattson is here to change the way we view our energy usage. It works by getting information from a transmitter attached to your electricity meter or fuse box. It measures the total amount of electricity being used in your home at any given time, and shows this on an easy to read display. The display can be shown as GB pounds, euros, dollars or yen, and is compatible for both home and office use. To make things even simpler the Wattson has a mood light which is a display in itself. As your power usage improves the colour of the light changes (a red light indicates that the amount of power you are using is above average, where as blue is below).
You can also download a programme (called Holmes) from DIYKYOTO’s website that works with Wattson to display your energy consumption as various graphs and charts. It will even help you figure out ways to help save electricity.
The Wattson is a product that will pay for itself by reducing your energy bills from anywhere between 5-25%! It would be pretty useless if the unit itself cost a fortune to run but there’s no need to worry on that front as it will only cost about £4 a year!
