Please note: this description was written by our website manager who previously owned a ZX spectrum and is a bit of a fan boy! If you would like to skip the waffle then please jump to the ‘About the wallet’ section lower down:

If we were to describe a home computer that only had 48K of memory and one that needed a cassette player to load games, you’d be forgiven in thinking it wasn’t any good. Yet what we’ve just described is the Sinclair Spectrum 48K, arguably one of the greatest inventions of the 1980’s, fondly remembered by anyone that ever had the pleasure of owning one. This pioneer of home computing may look feeble when compared to computers of today but it was one of the first to bring colourful graphics into the home and it truly was a machine greater than the sum of its parts.

The loading screen was a thing of retro beauty. A white square surrounded by red then blue then red then blue. Suddenly you were greeted with a burst of colour and an ear screeching sound that meant the game was booting up! This psychedelic display would last for several minutes before you even got to the start screen, but in those days that was completely acceptable. In the end you were treated with a game that was all about the gameplay and created a blueprint for today’s PCs and consoles to follow.

If you know anyone that owned a Spectrum 48K simply mention the games Fantasy World Dizzy, Elite, Bubble Bobble, Chase HQ, Daley Thompsons Decathlon, and Operation Wolf to see their faces light up as they remember how awesome the ZX Spectrum was!

About the wallet:

In homage to this 80’s icon we give you the Spectrum Wallet. Featuring the colourful rainbow stripe and all the decals found on the original, it’s a great way to show your appreciation of a design and technological classic. The middle section will comfortably hold 6 cards and a large section for notes. Plus the centre features a window section for an ID card or driving license. Finally at the rear there is a handy zipped pouch to hold your loose change.
